About Sterrett & Westover

Two Neighbors in Northeast Shelby County

Sterrett was once a center of pottery-making in central Alabama, so much so that people called it Jugtown. At least ten potters worked here, turning out East Alabama-style stoneware from high-quality clay with a two-toned glaze. William Hilliard Falkner bought the Sterrett Pottery Works in 1874 and ran it until 1903. The community is named for the local Sterrett family, and today it's an unincorporated, mostly rural place of 706 residents along Highway 25, 7 miles from Vincent. The Bob Saunders Family Covered Bridge, on the grounds of the former Twin Pines Conference Center, is listed in the World Guide to Covered Bridges.

Westover began in 1901 as a mail and passenger stop on the Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic Railroad and took its name from the railroad. It didn't incorporate as a city until January 31, 2001, and it has grown quickly since, from 1,275 residents in 2010 to 1,766 in 2020. Westover sits on the U.S. 280 corridor, 5 miles west of Harpersville, with Oak Mountain State Park and Logan Martin Lake each about 10 miles away. The Archer House, built around 1880, is on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.

Questions From Sterrett & Westover Renters

Do you deliver trailers to Sterrett and Westover?

Yes, and it's free in both. We bring the trailer to your home, farm or job site and hook it up to your vehicle. If you'd rather tow it yourself, our Montevallo pickup lot is about 30 miles from Westover and 34 miles from Sterrett.

Can I rent a trailer on a Saturday or Sunday?

Yes. Pickup in Montevallo is open every day from 6 AM to 9 PM, weekends included. Call or text (205) 843-0202 to set it up.

Can you deliver to a rural property off Highway 25?

Yes. Long driveways and gravel roads are fine. Tell us where on the property you want the trailer set and anything we should know about the approach, like a tight turn or a soft spot.

Which trailer should I rent to haul a tractor or side-by-side?

The 20' tilt deck car hauler. The deck is about 7 feet wide, tilts with a hydraulic assist and carries roughly 10,000 lb. Check your machine's weight and your truck's towing capacity, and plan on a half-ton truck or larger with a 2-5/16" ball.

I'm moving into a new home in Westover. Which trailer do I need?

The 7x16 enclosed cargo trailer holds most apartment and small-house loads and keeps everything dry, with ratchet straps, E-Track and moving blankets included. For a few big pieces, like a sofa or a washer and dryer, the 6x10 utility trailer is often enough.
