About Calera

The Heart of the Heart of Dixie

Calera is Spanish for "lime," the name the town took in 1869. Limestone quarries and intersecting railroads built it: lime supplied iron and steel makers, and the railroad crossroads kept downtown's shops and hotels busy. Calera is still a major lime producer, and the city calls itself the "Heart of the Heart of Dixie" for its spot near the center of the state.

The historic downtown, where Highways 25 and 31 meet, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A few blocks away, the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum keeps the railroad story going with restored depots, locomotives and rolling stock.

Calera keeps growing. The Census Bureau estimated 18,992 residents on July 1, 2025, up 15.2% since April 2020. The city reaches south across the county line into Chilton County, and three I-65 exits (228, 231 and 234) serve it. All that growth means moves, furniture runs and new yards to landscape.

Calera Through the Year

Festival Days and First Fridays in Calera

Calera's community events run on vendors and car owners bringing their own setups.

  • Strawberry FestivalEach April, with a car show, vendors and performers. The car hauler brings a show car in; the enclosed trailer carries a vendor's tent, tables and stock.
  • First FridayA spring and summer series in the Calera Courtyard, behind the historic downtown shops. The enclosed trailer keeps crafts and booth gear dry and locks up between trips.

Dates and locations change from year to year, so check with the City of Calera and Calera Main Street. Organizers decide where vehicles and trailers can park and unload.

Yes. Calera reaches across the county line into Chilton County, and delivery is free on both sides of it. We bring the trailer to your home or job site and hook it up to your vehicle.

What trailer do I need to haul a car in Calera?

The 20' tilt deck car hauler. It carries about 10,000 lb of payload and tilts down for loading, so there are no ramps. Plan on a half-ton truck or larger with a 2-5/16" ball, and check your vehicle's towing capacity. Call or text us if you'd like help with the numbers.

Yes. The 7x16 enclosed cargo trailer holds a tent, tables, bins and stock, and it locks between trips. Check with the event organizers about where vehicles and trailers can park and unload.

Do I need to bring my own straps or hitch?

No. Ratchet straps, chains, binders, hitches and moving blankets come with the rental at no extra charge. Tell us what you're hauling and we'll have the right gear ready.
